Harju County Government – Government representation in Harju region

Harju County Government has 12 administrative units. County Governor together with his advisors, secretariat, financial, internal audit and information systems departments are responsible for the internal organisation of the County Government, legal department fulfills mainly the same aim.

 

Public services are mainly provided by civilian registry and land departments. Civilian registry department registers births and deaths, marries and divorces citizens of the region etc. Land department carries out the land reform activities.

 

Social and health care department consults citizens on adopting children and providing medical equipment. The department is also responsible for supervision of the doctors working in Harju region.

 

Development department gives out the governmental support for counties´ NGOs and networks, financial support from gambling tax for local investments, support for villages and agriculture. The department is also coordinating the regional development planning and development cooperation in the county.

Planning supervision department deals with the supervision of the general and detailed planning in county municipalities.

The management of culture is coordinated by culture and sports department. The most important body for cultural management is the Cultural Council formed by Harju County Governor.

 

Legal department is responsible for the legislative supervision of different municipality acts.

 

Deparment of education carries out supervision of the county schools and deals with the coordination of youth work, life-long learning and committees of juveniles.

 

Internal security advisor is responsible for providing the security of the inhabitants by coordinating the fight against criminality and adequate reactions to different accidents and emergencies.

 

Advisor of the public relations is responsible for coordinating the international cooperation of the county government in addition to PR work.
